Music, Art & Drama

Music

Music forms part of the curriculum for all students in Key Stage 3.  The course involves composition, history of music and performance.

From September 2015 IGCSE will be offered to students entering year 10.

In addition to music in the curriculum the College provides opportunities for musicians to share their interest and talent in recitals and concerts after school.  Students have the opportunity to accompany assemblies and school musicals and the school band, solo singers and the choir perform both in school and in the community.

Visits to local musical events include the opera and the school also welcomes professional musicians to the school.

BIC is a centre for ABRSM examinations and both theory and practical examinations take place annually.

Drama

Drama forms part of the Key Stage 3 programme of study which is both fun and builds confidence.  All students are encouraged to involve themselves in school performances, assemblies and House events.

At Key Stage 4 IGCSE drama is being offered as an optional subject for the first time in 2014.

Art

The Key Stage 3 Art programme is compulsory and art  is also offered as an optional subject at Key Stage 4 - IGCSE.  A level classes are popular and the department has successfully prepared students for entry to university to take related courses.

The school is proud of its art displays and plans to hold an annual art exhibition.  Recently the first photography exhibition took place in the school and it is hoped that this too will become a regular fixture on the calendar.

Through the House system there are opportunities for all students to compete in such events as ‘create an Easter hat from recycled materials’.
