The PTSA organised a fabulous lunch on Friday, January 22. The event was hosted by Bruno Sandra, a parent at the school in his restaurant of the same name in Port Adriano.

Over a welcoming glass of cava, parents were able to enjoy views and make those all important introductions. It was great to see parents new to the school as well as more established families within the BIC community.

PTSA Chairperson, Paula Cannady and Spokesperson Jane Veronis made a brief presentation of the plans for the remainder of the year, and Principal Duncan Giles personally thanked all attendees and Bruno himself for such hospitality.

An extremely pleasant afternoon was had by all. The paella was delicious!

Future lunches are already being planned and it's hoped to beat the 45 who were at Bruno's on Friday!

As reading is such a vital part of education we are always keen to discover new ways to help parents access quality books.

Sunshine Books is an exciting new book club just launched on the island. The books on offer are carefully selected and will be delivered to the school throughout the year. We hope this company will be an asset to the island, becoming a great resource for English books.

Sunshine Books is an independent company providing services and of which the school receives no financial benefit.
The School can provide no warranty, expressed or implied, regarding online ordering or completion of book orders and assumes no legal liability or responsibility for the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any information given by Sunshine Books.

Earlier in the year we decided to give our House system a new lease of life and asked students to come up with names to replace the generic red, blue, green and yellow. After a student vote the winning names were announced at the end of term assembly with the associated colour chosen by draw.

The new Baleares International College Houses are:

Information on house events, counts and totals as well as the Primary vs Secondary count will be available on the school website. The House Coordinators, Ms. Xidakis and Mr. Green along with the House Captains will continue to develop the existing house events and look for opportunities to extend House spirit!

We would like to wish Ms. Sam Shelley the very best as she leaves BIC to pursue other interests. Ms. Shelley´s last day at school will be January 18th. Mr. George Fernando will take over as from her departure. A highly experienced classroom practitioner with over 30 years teaching experience, Mr. Fernando is a graduate from Leeds University and holds a PGCE from Bristol University. He has served as an Edexcel Physics examiner and has taught  Maths, Physics and Psychology at A Level - his second degree was in that subject. We are very lucky to have him join our staff and wish him the very best on his arrival.

BIC will celebrate its 60th Anniversary in 2017 and like any landmark birthday, preparations begin in earnest. We are still in the planning stages so all suggestions are very welcome. One area to develop is our alumni network; those former students who hopefully have fond memories of their time at the school and wish to share them with the current intake. There is an Old Balearians link on the school website that we cordially invite former students to visit. Please share this with any colleagues, friends, family members who may have attended the school. We want to hear from them.

Baleares International College is proud to be a member of COBIS, the Council of British International Schools. As the only COBIS school on the island we benefit from the wealth of opportunities membership offers. The COBIS Annual Research Survey 2015 was completed in November and the results  now shared with all schools and their stakeholders.  The survey was undertaken to help develop a deeper understanding of the growing global COBIS family of schools, as well as the British International Education sector as a whole. The results will support lobbying activities, inform planning for future CPD events, and help facilitate increased school-to-school networking, communication and support. A full copy of the survey results can be found
